Otak-Otak Si Dia: Street Food No More

Indonesia is famous of its nature and delicacy. Located within 2 enormous oceans and 2 continents, made Indonesia much affected from outsiders, especially in field of culture and food. Otak-Otak is one of famous Indonesian food. Similar with Malaysian or Singaporean (they call it as Otah), even in Indonesia there are also many kind of otak-otak. The differences located in their recipe and ingredients. In Jakarta, we usually find otak-otak seller in hawker stall. Yup, otak-otak might be counted as Jakarta's street food. But lately, as I told you before, online-based business is hip, there is an online tenant whose sell otak-otak and do delivery to Jakarta area; Otak-Otak si Dia. Yes, a unique name it is. Delivered to me in a tidy and clean packaging, nice touch. :)

It came with 2 kind of dipping sauce: peanut sauce and vinegar chili. Peanut sauce was nice. Not too thick and not to spicy. Fit me well. The other sauce, which is vinegar chili was my fave. Gave me a different way to eat otak-otak. Even it's vinegar, it had only a glimpse of sour, and not spicy at all. I enjoyed it a lot.

With a price of IDR 4K/pcs, of course you can taste the difference with the cheaper one that you may find on the street. Definitely, Otak-Otak si Dia is made from high quality ingredients with perfect seasoning. Covered with banana leaves and grilled to perfection. I could tell you from the first bite, you'll taste the mackerel fish with perfect chewiness. Welcome to the new era of otak-otak! :p

If you're craving for some, you may contact them. Don't forget, reservation needed. They do delivery to Jakarta (minimum order of 20pcs; free delivery for 50pcs). Or they also available on sedapur.com for you who live around Jakarta (Bekasi, Tangerang, Depok).

Bluegrass

Located just right at the opposite of Otel Lobby, Bluegrass succeed to attract my attention. Moreover, one of my friend highly recommend this place.  So I came by and tried some of their menus. Hope I wouldn't disappointed.

Texas Beef Ribs (150K). It came in a big size, way from my expectation, and it looked good. So first impression was 10. Lets see if this dish could kicked my buds. They have 3 variants of sauce: original, BBQ, and gentlemen jack rare tennessee whiskey. I chose gentlemen jack, and I didn't have any regret. It tasted so good. The meat (beef) was so tender and juicy. Chewing it even seemed effortless. The spices really well-absorbed. It came with mashed potato which also tasted good and went very well with the tasty meat. For the matter of size, this dish could be shared for 2-4 persons.

Asparagus Bacon Puff Pastry (60K). As I ever said, I love puff pastry. Interested with this one, so I dared myself to try. And I loved it! Savory puff pastry and salty bacon, plus half done egg yolks combined with crunchy asparagus could bring heaven to me.

Granny's Apple Pie (55K). Yup, it's double crust pie with apple and spices filling. The crust was (of course) crispy and the filling has soft texture and strong cinnamon taste. Came with a bowl of vanilla ice cream which went well with the pie. This wasn't my favorite, but I was quiet satisfied with it.

Ribenkoff

Central Park has been developed. A lot.
Listed as one of new hangout place in Jakarta, many new restaurants opened their outlet here. This one is Ribenkoff. I ate this few months ago. The last time I saw, it changed its name. I forgot the name though. ;p
The place was pretty vacant when I came in. They had outdoor seats too. For me, nothing special with the decoration. I mean, it was good, but  a lot of restaurants have good decoration. So nothing became unique anymore.

Chicken Steak. Seriously, this dish was horrible. It came in not-big portion, and  the meat was tasteless. Fortunately, the sauce was tasteful, even it taste like a bunch of MSG. Anyway, the french fries was kinda a lot.

Chicken Cordon Blue. The chicken was juicy. Unfortunately, it was also tasteless. Oh, and it served with spaghetti which was also tasteless. ;(
I think they have to put some more flavor into their dishes.

Strawberry juice. I forgot how much it costed me, approximately 18-20K IDR. And again, I was disappointed. First it came, they even didn't strain it, so I asked the waitress to strain. Then, it tasted literally like strawberry and water. They didn't put any milk into it. Seriously, 20K for a juice with no milk? That's crazy. I mean, Ribenkoff wasn't a high end restaurant. Plus, they put a lot of ice cubes into the glass. I wonder how much their capital budget for a glass of strawberry juice was. So bad.

Another thing that turn me off was their menu book was like in food court. It's only a clear holder. It looked cheap.

Anyway, since they had change their name, I hope they also change their quality. Amen.

Brussels Spring

Hello readers!
I know how much you miss me, so I come back early. lol.
This time my heart got caught into Brussels Spring. Heard once about them, they're famous in Bandung. Lately, they opened some branches (only 2: Epicentrum Walk & Central Park) in Jakarta. Yippie!

As their name seems into dessert, I thought I had to order one. So here this was. Opera Cake (22.5K). First time I fell in love with opera cake was the Harvest's one. Until then, Harvest's opera cake always be my baby standard. Anyway, for me, I thought Brussels Spring's was pretty edible. Even the rum was too much, it almost  beat the coffee smell. About texture, it was pretty nice. Love the moist.

Chicken Steak (47.5K). From the presentation, it won my heart. Looked so tempting. I couldn't wait to taste it. It was grilled chicken breast with BBQ sauce, served with fresh vegetables & mashed potato. The chicken was good. Nice, tender, juicy, well-marinated and well-grilled. I believe they didn't use to much seasoning into the chicken, because the main taste was in the BBQ sauce.  The sauce was nice. I loved the balance of sourness and sweetness. You can see the corn was hidden behind the chicken breast. The corn was boiled. Wait, can you see the mashed potato? Yeah, it's wrapped in spring roll skin. To be honest, I loved it so much! The mashed potato was savory and not too creamy. With crunchiness outside and moist & soft inside, 2 thumbs up for them. :))

Coffee Late (20K). Love the balance between milk and coffee. I'm not into bitterness, and this one fitted me well. I'm not an expert about coffee, but I knew this wasn't just an instant coffee. This was a well-brewed coffee. :)

I saw this in their show case. Chocolate cookies (12K). From the sticker on packaging, we could see it was still made in Bandung (their headquarter). Anyway, the cookies was chocolate-ish. Not too crunchy, a bit moist, and not too sweet, but I liked it. There was also some tiny cuts of cashew nuts.

Warung Naughty Nuri's

I believe you all have heard this big name; Warung Naughty Nuri's. First opened in Ubud, Bali, its big name is a guarantee to be crowd in Jakarta. I knew this kind of phenomenon already. And I know I wasn't wrong and i wasn't the only one who knew it. First branch in Jakarta, Kelapa Gading, was quite a big hype. No more than a quarter year, second branch was launched; Pantai Indah Kapuk. As it is much nearer to my home, so I chose to go there. And it turns out that 2nd branch in Jakarta wasn't less hype than the first. As I asked the waitress, she said I have to wait in 10 lines of queue. Well, not surprised. I saw many people standing outside just to wait their name to be called. Just so you know, it was a ruko (home office) kind of building, and they use 2 floors to serve customers. There's also seats outside the building, but unfortunately it was full of smoke from griller. But still, some people rather chose to sit there than wait in a long queue.

Spare Ribs (95K). It looks tempting, doesn't it? It came up with a pretty big portion. But after I ate it, I still felt not full. lol. Yeah, ribs contain bone and meat (in this case, pork), so the bone was quiet big. Plus, they served it without any side dish. Please, with that price and location like this, it won't be hurt if they give some french fries. Anyway, it tasted nice. Well-absorbed seasoning. And me loved it. I believe they cooked (maybe boiled it in seasoned broth) it forst before they grilled it. I could see a super big pot full of spare ribs. After they boiled it, they put it into seasoning (I am pretty confident it was made from soy sauce), then grilled it.

Pork Chop (80K). This one was not less outstanding than the former dish. I even love this more. I guess the seasoning between this pork chop and spare ribs are the same. They tasted exactly the same. I loved this one more because the pork was much easier to eat and the seasoning was even much well absorbed in this pork. The pork itself was tender and juicy. Plus, it didn't smell like pork, which much better. Maybe the pork-smell already covered by grilled-smell and seasoning-smell.

I could see while the chef was preparing my dishes. They grilled it in front of the main entrance. So bad they don't have a chimney, so the smoke was just spread all over the outside-area.

See the people who were waiting for their name to be called. Good foods worth your patience. :p
